How to migrate a website to HostPowr

Migration is free on every plan, including the €6 shared tier, and there is no setup fee attached to it. Our engineers do the work: files, databases and mailboxes are copied across, the site is stood up on a staging URL, and DNS only changes once you have confirmed it works.

That sequence is the reason there is no downtime. Your existing site keeps serving traffic the entire time, because nothing points at us until you say so. Most migrations finish inside one business day.

Before you start

• Have your current hosting login ready, or a full cPanel backup if your host provides one.
• Know where your email currently lives. If it is with your web host, it moves with the site; if it is with a separate provider, it stays put and the MX records need preserving.
• Check whether you are mid-term with your current host. There is rarely a reason to rush a cutover you have already paid for.

Steps

1. Open a migration request from Support → Tickets in the client portal.
2. Provide your current hosting login, or attach a cPanel backup.
3. Tell us your preferred cutover window if timing matters — for a shop, that usually means the quietest hours of the week.
4. We copy files, databases and mailboxes to our infrastructure and stand the site up on a staging URL.
5. You check the staging site and confirm it is correct.
6. You update your nameservers to ns1 and ns2.hostpowr.com, or we walk you through it. Traffic moves over as DNS propagates.

Check that it worked

• Click through the staging site properly before approving: forms, checkout, login, and any page that talks to a database.
• After the DNS switch, check the site over https:// and confirm the certificate is valid on the live domain.
• Send a test email to and from any mailbox that moved.

If it goes wrong

The staging site looks broken

Usually hardcoded URLs — applications that store their own address in the database render oddly on a different hostname. This normally resolves itself at cutover. Tell us what looks wrong and we will confirm whether it is expected before you approve.

Some visitors still see the old site

Propagation is uneven, and one to twenty-four hours is normal. Leave the old hosting active for at least 48 hours after the switch so nobody hits a dead site while their DNS catches up.

Email stopped when the site moved

Changing nameservers moves the whole DNS zone, including MX records. If mail was with a third party, those records need recreating here. Tell us before the cutover and we will carry them over; tell us after and it is a quick fix, but the gap is real.

Do not cancel your old hosting on the day of the switch. Keep it for a week or two, so that anything discovered late can still be retrieved from the original.

Hosting plans carry a 7-day money-back guarantee, so a migration that does not work out is not a trap. Domains are excluded, because registration fees go to the registry and cannot be recovered.
